One of the first things that comes to mind when you talk about Thailand are its beaches! Thailand has over 2,000 miles of coastline. An endless number of islands dot the emerald green waters along its edge. Deciding which beach to visit can be difficult! Beach time in Krabi though is a place we suggest.
Krabi province has a few advantages. First, it’s just a short one-hour flight from Bangkok. You can also find an occasional direct flight from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Once you arrive, you’ll need to drive 15 to 30 min. to the nearest coast. But the upside is that you’re a lot closer than if you had to take a ferry necessary to stay on one of the islands. All in all, you can get to Krabi quickly.
Second, Krabi isn’t just a destination for beach lovers. It has plenty more to offer. You can rock climb the limestone cliffs at Railay Beach (also spelled Raileh or Railey), one of the most popular destinations for climbing in the country. In fact, Krabi province is known for the sheer-sided karsts that jut up from the ocean.
If climbing isn’t your style, you can visit the Khao Pra Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary and the incredible Emerald Pool, go for a long tail boat ride, eat seafood to your heart’s content…

But the highlight are still Krabi beaches.

Here I am on Railay Beach. (There’s a reason why I’m dressed in black. Ask me about it sometime.)
If you want wiggle your toes in powdered sugar sand, take a day-long island tour for some snorkeling. Or ferry to the twin islands of Ko Phi Phi. (Ko, I was told, just means “island” so you’ll see names like Ko Phi Phi Don.) Soft white sand rings these two islands tucked inside the Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park.

Then after a sun-drenched day, head back to the mainland and wrap up with a sunset stroll–on the beach of course.
