10 DAY ITINERARY
Guanajuato, Days 1-3
The evidence of this city’s rich past can be seen everywhere – in the tunneled streets, the gilded churches and ornate private homes, and in the overall sense of sophistication and rich culture. Get ready to experience a modern university city that draws visitors from all across the Mexico and the world.
Day 1, Friday Feb 10 – Welcome to Mexico! After arriving in the afternoon, you’ll have time to check into your hotel before meeting new travel friends and enjoying a welcome dinner together.
Day 2, Saturday Feb 11 – Explore Guanajuato. Visit a local beekeeper in the morning. After lunch enjoy free time to wander, explore and discover on your own. Meet with the group mid afternoon for a walking tour of some of Guanajuato’s highlights and learn about Mexico’s story of independence. Take in views from Pípila, then wrap up the night with the delightful troubadours or dinner on your own.
Day 3, Sunday Feb 12 – Authentic Hacienda. After a delicious breakfast, you’re on your way to an historic hacienda with beautiful surroundings. After arriving back in Guanajuato, the evening is yours to enjoy however you want.
Patzcuaro, Days 4-6
This relaxing town located alongside Lake Patzcuaro is filled with local potters, textile weavers, enamel painters, and woodworkers who often busy creating beautiful works of art in the same spaces where they sell.
Day 4, Monday Feb 13 – Charming Patzcuaro. In the morning, leave for charming Patzcuaro and a tour of everything this quaint town has to offer.
Day 5, Tuesday Feb 14 – Creative Walking Tour & Copper Craftsmanship. Take a creative walking tour with your hosts, boat to Janítzio Island or enjoy a free morning. After lunch, you’ll leave for nearby Santa Clara to watch the complexities involved in fine copper craftsmanship.
Day 6, Wednesday Feb 15 – Avocado orchard. Learn about Mexico’s “green gold” at a family-owned avocado orchard and tastes the freshest guacamole ever! You’ll have lunch at a restaurant destination filled with beautiful artwork.
Morelia, Days 7-10
For many Mexicans, Morelia is the most beautiful city in the entire country. At the center of downtown is the magnificent baroque style cathedral made from pink stone surrounded by Plaza de Armas. At markets nearby you’ll find the building blocks of Morelia’s cuisine and sweets industry, including local honeys.
Day 7, Thursday Feb 16 – A beautiful colonial city and local people making a difference. Today it’s on to beautiful Morélia and a chance to see some of the architecture and sites for which its famous. Late afternoon visit the non-profit that your tour benefits and wrap up the day with some amazing made-to-order tacos or quesadillas.
Day 8, Friday Feb 17 – Millions of butterflies. Grab a cup of coffee before an early start to the butterfly biosphere. Hike up to the meadows or take a horseback ride. Take your time to enjoy and explore the fascinating butterflies. You’ll arrive home late afternoon.
Day 9, Saturday Feb 18 – Cooking class & classic cathedral Enjoy a leisurely start to your day. Late morning take an optional cooking class with a talented local chef or explore more of Morelia before a farewell dinner and topping off the evening with a night view of the lighting of the cathedral..
Day 10, Sunday Feb 19 – Back home! Say your final goodbyes after breakfast before down time before traveling home. We hope you come again.
