Day 1 – Guatemala City, the heart of Central America.

Arrive in the busy capital of Guatemala and enjoy the comfort of a five-star hotel with close proximity to the downtown restaurants and shops. Visit the historic city center with its main square, parks, ancient Mayan archaeology, and museums before meeting for a brief orientation.

Day 2 – Sand and Surf in Monterrico

Leave the bustle of the city and travel to Monterrico, a vacation destination for locals looking to get away from the crowds to enjoy sand (volcanic black sand in this case) and surf. Along the way, stop to visit a tilapia farm and learn how a local villager is transforming his community through hard work, innovative ideas, and faith. In the evening, watch the sun set over the Pacific while enjoying an authentic Guatemalan dinner.

Day 3 – Coastal Wildlife near Monterrico

Venture out in a traditional canoe and paddle through a mangrove forest to a remote island. Experience wildlife and pass by locals on their way to school or work. Tie off at the island and watch the locals in salt harvesting, an ancient tradition that has provided a way of life for families on the coast since the time of the Mayans.

After a lunch back in Monterrico, enjoy the infinity pool, a walk on the beach, or an ocean swim.

Day 4 – The Highlands and Lake Atitlan, “the most beautiful lake in the world”

After a breakfast overlooking the ocean, travel by private van to Santiago. Santiago is a town situated in the volcanic mountainous region surrounding Lake Atitlan, one of Guatemala’s most picturesque locations and home to Mayan people. Learn about coffee production from a local farmer, and be introduced to the weaving and beading that this region is famous for. Spend the evening at the hotel, kayak the lake, visit the town markets, or enjoy a local dining experience.

Day 5 – The Quiet Village Life of San Juan

In the morning, travel by private ferry across Lake Atitlan to the quiet village of San Juan. Along the way view “La Nariz del Indio,” a mountain that resembles the profile of a Mayan face. Enjoy a guided tour of this less traveled town that includes a stop at an artist’s studio where Mayan culture, history, and modern life are interpreted through incredible skill and vivid colors.

Day 6 – Colorful and Vibrant Antigua

After breakfast, depart for Antigua, the “must-see” former colonial capital of Guatemala where shopping, museums, Spanish architecture and fine dining attract visitors from around the world. This city is very walkable and the hotel is situated close to all of the attractions, so you can explore all Antigua has to offer.

Day 7 – An Unforgettable Breakfast near Antigua

Head to a macadamia plantation for an outdoor breakfast you won’t forget. One of your menu choices: macadamia pancakes topped with macadamia butter and blueberries. Enjoy a tour of the plantation then stop by for a relaxing macadamia oil mini-facial and sample some of the chocolate-covered macadamias.

Next visit the coffee and culture museum and learn about the process from bean to the cup. Enjoy a sample of the flavor of the day. After lunch, consider a stroll on the cobblestone streets, visit the Jade and Chocolate museum, or shop the markets.

Day 8 – Hike the Pacaya Volcano

Climb Pacaya, an active volcano that sits between Guatemala City and Antigua. Enjoy incredible long-range views, visit the Lava Store near the summit, and witness first hand how volcanoes impact the people living nearby.

 

Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and amenities at your hotel in Guatemala City for your final afternoon before a final evening feast. Enjoy a Guatemalan barbecue and revisit the amazing experiences you’ve had with the people who enjoyed them with you.
